Features

-  Age: peak 65 yrs

 

Dx

-  Bone Marrow: 20% + blasts

-  Organ infiltration

-  Hepatosplenomegaly

-  Gum hypertrophy

-  Fever, bone pain

-  Spnotaneous bleeding

-  Hyperluekocytosis syndrome: leukostasis

-  Hyperuricaemia

-  Gout

-  Urolithiasis

 

Mx

-  Cytarabine + anthracycline followed by one of:

-  Allogenic bone marrow transplant

-  High risk pts < 55 in remission

-  Cure rate 60%

-  Autologous bone marrow transplant

-  Cure rate 50%

-  Further therapy

-  If > 60

-  Acute Promyleocytic Leukaemia (APML)

-  Ix for DIC

-  All-trans retinoic acid + anthracyclines

-  90% cure rate
