Definition

Protocol

-  Response

-  Unconscious? GCS

-  Squeeze & shout

-  Pain response: sternal rub, philtrum, ear lobe

-  Call for help, 444 (Frankston) or 000

-  Airway

-  Patency

-  Dentures, broken teeth, bleeding, vomiting

-  Clear as necessary

-  Recovery position (lateral)

-  Suction

-  Support as necessary

-  Chin lift

-  Jaw thrust

-  Careful if cervical spine injury

-  Breathing

-  Look, listen, feel

-  Apnoea --> CPR

-  +/- ventilation

-   ONLY if willing

-   Bag & mask +/- guedel

-   Mouth to mouth/nose not recomended

-  Circulation

-  Assess when able

-  Do not rely on pulse to determine if CPR required

-  Defibrillation

-  Attach AED or manual (ALS)

 

Pregnancy

-  Requires left lateral tilt to avoid aortocaval compression

-  Earlier intubation than for non-pregnant pt

-  Caesarean section (LUSCS..) if adequate circulation not established after 5 minutes of cardiac arrest

-  Attempt to save maternal life by reliveing aortocaval compression

-  Should be done at site of BLS/ALS

-  CPR continues until no longer necessary
