Procedure

-  Prior to a meal &/or 2 hrs postprandial

-  Venepuncture: grey tube OR

-  Finger prick

-  Glucometer

-  Test strips

-  Mediswab

-  Lancet

-  Sharps container

 

 

Procedure

-  Turn on glucometer & insert test strip

-  Ensure strip placed properly

-  Mediswab area

-  Use lancet to prick finger

-  Dipose of lancet in sharps container

-  Squeze finger to produce blood

-  Place drop of blood on strip

-  Blot site w mediswab

-  Record result

 

Results

-  N = 3.6-5.5 mmol/L

-  Vary according to meals, Insulin

-  > 5.5 = hyperglycaemia: DM, gestational diabetes

-  < 3.6 = hypoglycaemia

-  Malnutrition, chronic disease
