Cause

-  Vomiting: gastroenteritis, GORD

-  Diarrhoea: gastroenteritis

-  Burns

 

Associated S/S

-  Weight loss

-  < 3%

-  Reduced urine output

-  Thirst

-  5%

-  Dry mucus membranes

-  Mild sinus tachycardia

-  CRT >2 sec

-  7-9%

-  Lethargy

-  Reduced skin turgour

-  Sunken fontanelle

-  Sunken eyes

-  Decreased conscious state

-  CRT >3 sec

-  10%+

-  Weak, rapid breathing

-  Poor capillary refill

-  Hypotension, shock

-  Oliguria

-  Apathy

 

Ix

-  U&E: hyponatraemia, hypernatraemia

-  BSL: low glycogen reserves in paeds
