Risk Factors

-  Obesity x6-9

-  HRT (unopposed oestrogen w a uterus) x6-12

-  Tamoxifen x2-3

-  HNPCC (Lynch syndrome)

-  Endometrial hyperplasia

 

Cause

-   

 

Associated S/S

-  Vaginal bleeding

-  PMB

-  Menorrhagia

-  15% cases prior to menopause

 

Ix

-  Pipelle endometrial aspiration (biopsy)

-  TV ultrasound: endometrial thickness (controversial)

-  +/- Hysteroscopy D&C

 

Staging

-   

 

Mx

-  Surgery: Hysterectomy + BSO

-  Primary treatment

-  Always remove ovaries as hormone dependant

-  If myometrial invasion then laympadenectomy or radiotherapy

-  Radiotherapy if

-  Improves local control by does not effect survival

-  Pt unsuitable for surgery

-  Post-op high risk

-  Positive pelvic lymph nodes
