Definition

-  Highly absorbent nonadherent wound dressing (gel)

 

Features

-  Creates & maintains moist environment

-  Liquefies necrotic tissue on surface

-  Debrides wounds

-  Applied to wound surface & covered with secondary dressing

-  Left on wound up to 3 days but usually changed daily

 

Indications

-  Wounds

-  Low to nil exudative

-  Necrotic & fibrotic

 

Types

-  Solosite: glycerol, carmellose, allantoin..

-  Intrasite: propylene glycol
