Clinical Relevance

-  Erbs palsy

 

Features

-  Member of rotator cuff group of muscles

-  Posterior group of shoulder joint muscles

-  Often inseperable from teres major muscle inferiorly

 

Origin

-  Infraspinous fossa of scapula

 

Insertion

-  Middle facet of greater tubercule of humerus

 

Action

-  Lateral rotation of humerus

-  Stabilises humeral head in glenohumeral joint

 

Innervation

-  Suprascapular nerve (C5, C6)
