- Diathermy wire loop excision of transition zone of cervix as F/U to cervical dysplasia on Colposcopy

 

Features

-  Aims to remove all dysplastic cells from cervix

-  Cervical dysplasia on Colposcopy

 

Procedure

-  Pre-op

-  Nil anticoagulants 1/52 prior

-  Fast

-  Procedure

-  GA or LA

-  Wire loop diathermy

-   8mm deep+

-   Margins clear by 4-5mm

-   Histopatholgy

-  Post-op

-  Nil anticoagulants 1/52 post

-  F/U Colposcopy 4-6/12

-  Colposcopy & Pap Smear 10-12/12 (6/12 post 2nd Colposcopy)

-   If OK for normal Pap Smear F/U

 

Complications

- Repeated LLETZ may cause cervical shortening & risk of preterm labour

- Reocurrence 5-10%

- Infection

- Pain (period pain like) --> simple analgesia

- Bleeding

- Nil evidence fertility is effected
