Procedure

Press ON
Connect ECG cable, apply ECG electrodes to ECG cable and patient

Anterior-lateral position preferable

Press ENERGY SELECT or rotate SPEED DIAL
Press CHARGE

Whilst charging charging bar appears and a ramping tone sounds
When fully charged the screen displays available energy

All personell clear of patient
Confirm ECG and available energy
Press and hold SHOCK (lightning bolt) until ENERGY DELIVERED message appears on screen

To disarm press SPEED DIAL
Automatically drops charge if not discharged within 60 seconds

Observe ECG rhythm

Defibrillation Controls

Cardioversion

Procedure

Press ON
Connect ECG cable, apply ECG electrodes to ECG cable and patient

Anterior-lateral position preferable

Select lead II or lead with greatest QRS amplitude
Press SYNC

SYNC MODE message appears in message area
Press SYNC again to deactivate

Observe ECG rhythm

Upside down triangle marker appers near the middle of each QRS
If markers not overlying QRS then adjust ECG SIZE or select another lead

Connect therapy electrodes to patient and connect to therapy cable
Press ENERGY SELECT or rotate SPEED DIAL
Press CHARGE

Whilst charging charging bar appears and a ramping tone sounds
When fully charged the screen displays available energy

All personell clear of patient
Confirm ECG and available energy
Press and hold SHOCK (lightning bolt) until ENERGY DELIVERED message appears on screen

Transcutaneous Pacing

Non-invasive transthoracic temporary pacing
Electrodes cannot sense and pace at the same time
Demand or Non-demand

Demand

Used for most patients
Inhibits pacing output when senses intrinsic rhythm
If ECG SIZE set too low to detect patients beat or if leads detached will pace asynchronously

Asynchronous rate dependant on setting regardless of intrinsic beats

Non-Demand

Selected if noise or artifact interferes with propper sensing of QRS

Rates 40-170bpm
Patient must be observed continuously whilst paced
Procedure

Press ON
Controls inside green panel are used to control pacing
Connect ECG cable, apply ECG electrodes to ECG cable and patient
Select lead I, II or III
Apply therapy electrodes to patient and connect to therapy cable
Press PACER
Observe ECG rhythm

Upside down triangle marker appers near the middle of each QRS
If markers not overlying QRS then adjust ECG SIZE or select another lead
Press and hold PAUSE to view instrinsic rhythm

Pacing occurs at 25% of set rate

Press RATE or rotate SPEED DIAL to desired rate
Press CURRENT or rotate SPEED DIAL to increase current until capture occurs

Capture indicated by wide QRS and T wave following pace marker

Palpate patients pulse & check BP to confirm mechanical capture
Consider sedation and/or analgesia if patient uncomfortable
Features

Dashes (--) instead of HR is displayed on Home Screen during pacing
HR Alarms are disabled
To stop pacing press PACER or reduce current to zero
To defibrillate press CHARGE and pacing automatically stops
Skin burns or irritation may occur if prolonged pacing or high currents
