Definition

-    Pancreatic & gastric lipase inhibitor used to aid weight loss

 

Features

-    Needs to be used in combination with co-ordinated diet & exercise program

-    Mean weight loss 2.9kg in 1 year

-    Should follow low fait diet

 

Indications

-    Obesity with BMI >30 or 25 if associated with comorbidities

 

Contraindications

-     

 

Side Effects

-    Oily spotting in stool

-    Flatulence

-    Fecal urgency

-    Reduced vitamin absorption (fat soluble vitamins)

-    Dyspepsia

-    Nausea

-    Diarrhoea or loose stools

-    Headache

-    Urolithiasis
