Features

-  Transabdominal (TA) always

-  Transvaginal (TV) also unless paeds or virgin

-  Requires full bladder to assist TA scan

Indications

-  Pelvic pain

 

Procedure (Non-pregnant)

-  1L+/- of water 1-2hrs prior to scan for full bladder (window)

-  Patient supine

-  +/- Kidneys

-  Uterus: position, size, echotexture, mass (fibroids, polyps, cysts, gestational sac), endometral thickness, +/- PID

-  Ovaries: size, follicle count, mass, tenderness, +/- vascularity if suspecting torsion

-  +/- Fallopian tubes

-  Fluid: POD, adnexa..

-  Appendix not looked for unless specified on request
