Definition

- Weight gain/loss during pregnancy

 

Features

- Obesity in pregnancy is an increasing concern

- Expected weight gain in pregnancy dependant on BMI prior to pregnancy

- Average weight gain is between 11.5 & 16kgs over course of pregnancy

Typically 1-2kg in first 3 months

-  Then roughly 0.4kg/week or 1-2kg/month for last 6 months

-  Total Weight Gain: 12.5 - 18kg

 

Guidelines

- BMI <18

-  Total Weight Gain: 12.5 - 18kg

-  Rate of Weight Gain T2 & T3: 0.51kg/week

- BMI 18-25

-  Total Weight Gain: 11.5 - 16kg

-  Rate of Weight Gain T2 & T3: 0.42kg/week

- BMI 25-30

-  Total Weight Gain: 7 - 11.5kg

-  Rate of Weight Gain T2 & T3: 0.28kg/week

- BMI >30

-  Total Weight Gain: 5 - 9kg

Rate of Weight Gain T2 & T3: 0.22kg/week
