-  Class of antidepressant

 

Medications

-  Amitriptyline (Endep)

-  Nortriptyline (Pamelor)

-  Imipramine (Tofranil)

-  Dozepin (Deptran)

-  Clomipramine (Anafranil)

 

Uses

-  1st line: Major depression (esp Melancholic or Psychotic)

-  Not recommended for children <18 (cardiotoxic)

-  2nd line (Imipramine): Panic disorder, GAD

-  Clomipramine: Panic disorder (2nd line), OCD

 

-  Side Effects

-  Anticholinergic: xerostomia, tachycardia, constipation, urinary retenion, blurred vision

-  Sweating, tremor, postural hypotension, weight gain, sedation

-  Cardiac toxicity: arythmias in children, worsening of cardiac conduction defects, cause of mortality in OD

-  Lowered seizure threshold
