Causes

-  PID

-  Candida Albicans infection

-  Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

-  Trichomoniasis

-  Chalmydia

-  Gonorrhoea

-  During pregnancy also consider

-  Physiological

-  Chorioamnionitis

 

Differentiation

-  Speculum exam

-  Vaginal pH

-  Normal: Candida

-  >4.5

-  Bacterial Vaginosis

-  6+: Trichomoniasis

-  Discharge

-  Cottage cheese: Candida

-  Grey, white: Bacterial Vaginosis

-  Yellow, green, frothy: Trichomoniasis

- Odour

-  Nil: Candida, Trichomoniasis

-  Fishy: Bacterial Vaginosis

-  Saline Microscopy

-  Hyphae: Candida

-  Clue cells: Bacterial Vaginosis

-  Motil trichomonia: Trichomoniasis
